Who is Jesus, Really? A 7-Part Journey to Meeting the Master: Part 2

The Master, not the Life Coach

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” - Matthew 11:29
“Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” - 1 John 2:6

Following in the Dust

Jesus was not giving TED Talks. He was not selling a 10-step program to a better life.
He was a Rabbi. A Master. And to follow Him meant something far deeper than self-improvement and led to something much more profound than even nirvana.

In the first century, disciples did not just listen to their teacher. They lived with him, walked where he walked, and learned not just his words but his way of being.
The highest compliment you could give a disciple was that they were covered in the dust of their Rabbi’s feet.

Today - in a more Western mindset drenched in capitalism and Empire, we are tempted to treat Jesus like a life coach: someone who can transactionally give us motivation, tips, and inspiration to be our best selves. But a Master is different. A Master shapes your whole life. He challenges you to unlearn what does not belong. He calls you into your True Identity and into the rhythms that lead to the freedom of the Kingdom.

Following Jesus is not about optimizing your schedule or managing your mindset. It is about surrender. It is the most aggressive growth mindset you'll ever adopt, it's knowing that no matter what happens, the ultimate outcome is there to shape you into someone who is more like Him.
